It’s Just Me

everything but boots- forever 21, boots- GoJane

Firstly, thank you to everyone who commented on my last post!  It was a great experience for me and I was more than happy to share it with you guys. =)  Secondly, I almost didn’t post this outfit.  You know how you get the feeling that an outfit isn’t blogworthy?  Well that’s how I felt about this outfit.  Then I was like “Forget that!” because I’ve never claimed to be writing a high fashion super blog, but instead a blog about my life, which includes all sorts of things like fashion, my knitting, school, family, and so on.  Part of sharing about my life is showing the outfits I wear and this is something I wore, so why not post this outfit?  Basically, I’m trying to take the pressure off myself to be something I’m not and to keep true to who I am.

I think this little tee is so cute and I’ve
actually done some of the things on this list!

Also, I’ve been thinking a lot about commenting on blogs lately and Alyse wrote a post that really resonated with me.  So I have some questions for you guys (which are sort of a follow-up to the Fashion Beauty Friend Friday ones that were asked last week) that you can answer if you like and I’ll include my answers as well:

Questions
1. Do you only comment on a post if you have something completely original to say?
2. Do you check back on posts you’ve commented to see if the blogger has left you a response?
3. How do you feel about Disqus? Love it/hate it?
4. How do you feel about people who leave a link with their comments?

Answers
1. Not necessarily.  I don’t mind being the 20th person on a post to compliment that person’s outfit choice because I’m showing my appreciation.  Some people might find it repetitive to read a bunch of comments about how gorgeous their shoes or necklace or skirt is, but I am grateful to each person who takes the time to comment.  I am certainly not knocking those who only comment when they have something original to say, I guess I’m just wondering if people are annoyed by reading comments that are fairly similar?

2. Not usually.  I only check back if I have asked a question or if I think the post discusses a really interesting topic and I want to see how other people respond.

3. I have had a pretty pleasant experience with Disqus so far.  I love how it has threaded replies, that way if other people have a similar question, they can see how I’ve replied.  Also, I like how it emails to let the commenter know that I’ve responded to their comment.  The only problem I’ve had is a couple of times Disqus hasn’t loaded for while.  I’ve read on other blogs that some people despise Disqus, so as readers of this particular blog with Disqus, I would love to know how you feel about it!

4. I don’t mind people who leave a link with their comments and I usually do it myself.  Let me clarify- commenting “Nice blog” and then leaving me a bunch of links to a blog or giveaway I consider spamming.  On the other hand, I’m totally fine with people who leave a thoughtful comment and include their link at the end.  To me, it is sort of like a signature and allows me to easily click onto their blog when I want to check it out.

Tell me: your thoughts! I’m curious to find out you guys think!

P.S. Speaking of commenting- thank you sincerely to every single one of you who takes the time to read this blog!  You guys are the support that encourages me to keep up with this blog and strive to make it better.  =)

Thank you so much Sarah for responding to my questions! I especially like your answer to the last question- I really hope my link is unobtrusive and only there to be clicked if you want to. Aww, thanks so much for your kind words about my blog and for following! =)

Thank you Melissa- I could have said it better about taking time to actually read the post! I haven't really had many problems with Disqus, so I would recommend that you try it and if you hate it I think you can switch back fairly easily!

Thank you very much Laura- I'm glad what I was trying to say came across as I meant it to! Also, glad to hear that you don't mind Disqus- if you guys really hated it I would certainly change it because I don't want you to be unhappy! =)

Thanks Emma! And I agree, it is very convenient when whatever commenting system someone uses remembers your info- the less hassle for the commenter the better!

I think you look cute. Leggings and a skirt is usually very cute! :)

So, comments. I don't mind reading the sames ones when people are showing appreciationn, like you said, but if there is quite a bit of text written and people don't acknowledge anything you're saying at all in their comments, it kind of bugs me. Take time to read the post, that's all I ask. The writer took time to put it together.

I haven't had any issues with Disqus, but I know a lot of other people have so I'm scared to install it. I really like commenting with it though!

i'm glad you posted your outfit! i definitely think being true to your self and dressing realistically is really important for blogs; otherwise your blog is reflecting who you are trying to be rather than who you are. so props to you!!! haha sorry for that mini speech.

about your questions, i completely agree with your answers on 1, 2 and 4. full on agreement! as far as disqis, i really don't have a preference as a reader.

I like your outfit! I do know what you mean though about wondering if an outfit is blog-worthy or not. Since I don't post everyday, I can usually avoid posting my worst outfits, unless I'm in a rut. But like I said, I really like this casual look on you!

    1. Not necessarily. It really depends on the blog/blogger. If they consistently comment on my posts, then I try to comment on all of theirs. Like you say, it shows appreciation. At the same time, there are some bloggers whom I know well enough to NOT comment everyday…they know I'm reading even if I don't comment.

    2. Sometimes, but mostly only if I've asked a question or I know the blogger responds to their comments.

    3. It works. I don't use it myself, but it works!

    4. I don't really care, unless, like you're saying, they only post a tiny comment and then the link to their blog. Still, I usually don't pay attention to the link at the end of the comment…I just click on their name instead.

    Woot!

i dont care how people want their comments done, just as long as its easy and remembered next time your on there. I comment on blogs that have commented on my blog MOST of the time, the rest i just comment when I want to, its not always original but i like to have my say! I think leaving links on pages is ok, but not spamming like just saying oh cute followed by ten links or anything, thats a pain! cute tshirt too hun.

Thank you Julie! I remember feeling the same way in the beginning because I thought numbers were the only determinant of the worth of your blog, but I know now that is so not the case and I am so grateful for the little community that I building with readers like you! =) I absolutely agree with your #1 and find it especially peeving when someone returns to let me know that they noticed I wasn't following and demands that I follow them because they are following me (yes, this has happened to me!) Thanks again for jumping in on the discussion!

I'm so glad to see a regular outfit that you weren't sure of. I think it's super cute of course! but it's good to know other bloggers have days where they don't feel perfect. haha! I'm with you on the comments. I don't care what people say, as long as it's nice, I LOVE em'! I rarely check back on comments I leave and I usually reply by commenting on their blog. I don't have much experience with disqus, but I havn't had any struggles with it either (except I don't get emails when I get responses). And I LOVE when people leave links. Sometimes clicking on their name doesn't work and when they leave a link I KNOW I'll be able to find their blog, discover what a fantastic person they are, and thank them for leaving a comment on mine. :)

There you go. Haha! My thoughts. Hope it wasn't too long for ya. :)

1.No, I know that “I LOVE THAT TOP” is nowhere near original. But I love each and every one of my comments, and who doesn’t love to hear something nice. Sometimes, I comment just because I like something. I doesn’t have to be an original something.

2.Not usually, only if I asked a question that I would like answered.

3.Dosqus is DISGUSTING! Haha no I’M KIDDING I was just attempting wittiness, I don’t mind either way.

4.And I guess I would have to agree with your number four response as well. I have the SAME feelings on that one.

That being said thank you for this lovely post, and that tee reminds me of a grade school (that is not meant to be offensive I LOVED grade school)!

Interesting follow-up questions to this past week's FBFF. I need to look more into Disqus!!

love what you said in the beginning of this post about being true to yourself. I sometimes catch myself questioning my posts and wondering whether it'll get me comments, followers, etc. but that's not who I want to be as a blogger; I want to be sincere with what I post and true to myself. kudos Nnenna! :D

    as for your questions:
    1. I do appreciate the time people take to comment, whether it be one word or a whole essay. however, I just can't do the "hey check out my blog and follow kthanks" comment. I immediately erase those.
    2. same here, not usually. I do wish blogger had a way of letting you know when that person has directly answered your question though.
    3. your blog is the first I've commented with using Disqus. I'm neutral about it though it does take a little time to load, but I'm fine with that :) I do like that you can respond to it like I mentioned in #2
    4. TOTALLY agree with you, especially if the reader is straight out advertising like I said in #1

glad you're taking the time to discuss this! :)

I have so much to say haha! I think this is a really cute outfit! I often think, hmmm maybe this outfit isn't blogworthy too but I've decided now that it doesn't matter because I think of my blog as a personal style blog and I like to be as real as I can be on it.
And to your questions: I comment on posts if I see something I like in the outfit, or I have a response to what they've written, like with my blog, I try to be real in what I'm saying. And I agree with you, I don't mind if people leave links because it's a quick way to reply to their comments and check out their blog, but I hate getting "nice outfit, follow my blog" messages. I've even had some saying "nice pants, check out my blog" when I've been wearing a dress or skirt haha!

I reply to every single comment I get on my blog, otherwise I will only comment when I have something new to add to the conversation or am interested in the post. I never check back on posts I've commented on. I am ambivalent about Disqus but do prefer just the normal comment box that pops up from blogger. People who leave their link with their comment sometimes bugs me if I suspect they're just spamming me. If not, then i don't mind. Thanks for this post. It was an interesting thing to read about and answer. And I like your honest approach to fashion posts. Often I'm not able to post what I wear every day as I'm usually in work clothes and never get the time during the week to take photos of it. Looking at my blog, you'd think all I did was faff about in fields in dresses but definitely not!

I will comment if I am being sincere. I don't comment just to get more followers or comments on my own blog. And I always scroll through old posts to get a good feeling on whether I am truly interested in that person's blog enough to follow. I don't like to fake the funk. I'd rather be someone who is honest and sincere than be Ms. Popularity. :)

I definitely think this outfit was worth a post :) sometimes casual and simple looks are just as effective as extravagent looks and I really like this – especially the skirt and the boots!
Lovely blog – Following you now :)

    1. Do you only comment on a post if you have something completely original to say? Yeah generally I don't really think it's worth a meaningless post like "cool xx" as a blogger myself I prefer the comments that people have actually thought about so I try and do the same
    2. Do you check back on posts you've commented to see if the blogger has left you a response? Most of the time although my memory is terrible so sometimes I forget to come back then realise 2 weeks later lol.
    3. How do you feel about Disqus? Love it/hate it?
I haven't really come across it too much, I think the commenting is a good idea though :)

    4. How do you feel about people who leave a link with their comments?
I'm more than happy with it unless it's an agressive link accompanied with CHECK THIS OUT NOW or something :) if it's just there to be clicked if you want but not if you dont then I'm totally cool with it!
