Le Week-end 04.19.13

Ooof, this week. I’m mighty glad it’s over. I was kind of in a funk, but at least the week did start off on a high note. Let’s skip to that part, shall we?

// On Monday I went to the swanky offices of Bob Mackie for a viewing party of Ru Paul’s Drag Race– one of the most entertaining shows on television.  Bob Mackie was a guest judge on the show this week and he was great with his critiques. Chris and Jessica prepared an amazing spread for us, including the most fragrant sparkling wine from Magnifico (seriously, this wine smelled so good and tasted great too) and good eats from Digby’s Cafe. On top of stuffing my face with all of these yummy treats, it was so much fun to watch the show with a bunch of people who love it as much as I do!

// On Tuesday I finally got a chance to catch up on my favorite Sunday shows- Game of Thrones and Mad Men. I don’t want to give any spoilers in case you’re behind, but I just want to emphasize how great both of these shows are!

// I found out one of my coworkers is leaving- next week will be her last at the office. I’m pretty bummed about it because she was one of the first people I met when I started my job and she’s the last girl to go from my original group of work friends. Her news made me think again about where I am in life and where I want to go- something I’m still trying out work out.

// On Thursday, Barnes & Noble in Union Square hosted an event with Brian McGreevy, author of Hemlock Grove. Hemlock Grove is also a new Netflix series that was just released last night and the author talked about the differences between writing the novel and the script for the series. The hostess also spoke to a couple of the actors (Bill Skarsgård and Landon Liboiron) about what it was like to bring the novel to life. I’m planning to watch the series on Netflix and I’m curious as to whether I’ll like it as much as the book!

// In exactly one week I’m going to see Solange perform in Brooklyn– I cannot wait!

// This week’s picture was taken on my way to brunch in the Upper East Side. I love that the flowers are in bloom all over the city- it’s so beautiful.

// If you guys haven’t already seen Dove’s latest beauty campaign, you really should watch this video. It really does make you think about how we perceive ourselves versus how others view us.

// How well can you multitask? You can find out from this series of fun little exercises. Turns out I’m good at focusing on one task and quick to switch from one task to another, but slower at task management!

// I love Jennifer Lawrence and I am so excited for the next Hunger Games movie- here’s the latest trailer!

  1. OMG, you had me at Bob Mackie. He’s amazing. That sounds like such a fun time! I love having Mad Men’s crazy back in my life. I’m fascinated by the psychology behind it – like, we’re all pretty much obsessed with Don, but the guy’s really such a mess. It’s interesting how we react to him. Oh, and I just saw that Dove campaign yesterday, I’ve been thinking about it pretty nonstop since. I think it’s wonderfully insightful!

I know, it’s crazy how much we (viewers) love Don. I mean- he’s not really a good guy, which he’s shown time and time again on the show, but somehow we’re still rooting for him. I haven’t seen last night’s episode yet- I need to catch up!

I have a huge Jennifer Lawrence crush, and the reason I like the Hunger Games movie is because of her. Ok, and Josh Hutcherson.

Yeah, when I first heard she was cast, I thought she wasn’t right for the part but she absolutely proved me wrong!

It’s always sad when people co-workers leave. One of the AE stores I worked at closed over a year ago and I still miss everyone who I worked with. There was never any drama and we all got along so well!
Oh! Thanks for the trailer link. My mom asked if I had seen it yesterday and I didn’t even realized it was available!
