Maybelline Color Whispers Review

I’ve really been on a beauty kick lately and as I mentioned in this post, I recently picked up these two lovely lip colors. I might seem like a Maybelline pusher, but I promise I don’t work for them- I just really love their products!

The Maybelline Color Whispers are lightweight, while still providing a great pigmentation. They glide on very smoothly and evenly, like applying lip balm, and layer well. With just a few swipes, I had a nice stain on my lips and with a few more swipes the color was rich and nearly opaque. They are moisturizing enough that I don’t feel the need to constantly apply chapstick on top of the color and they have a bit of shine, but not too much (I prefer a matte or slightly glossy color- anything more just looks ridiculous on me!).

I found that the color wore off after a couple of hours; however, Berry Ready faded nicely, so even when it wore off, my lips just looked slightly stained. I love lipsticks in the red color family: as you can see below, Berry Ready is a berry color with pink undertones while Who Wore it Red-er is a pinky red color (it’s not a true red). I bought these on sale at my local CVS, so I paid about $6 for each, which I feel is a pretty good price.

I’m a huge fan of Solange- in part due to her music, but also because of her killer sense of style. She’s a woman of many talents- a singer, songwriter, model and DJ.  I love the way she takes risks with her clothing- she’s not afraid to be bold and ‘out there.’ Also, can we talk for a moment about how awesome her hair is?!

I’m going to see her perform live this Friday at Crossing Brooklyn Ferry Festival and I’m super excited! I’ve been listening to all of her songs nonstop in preparation for the concert and I wanted to share a few of my favorites with you here.

Tell me: What do you think of her music and/or her style?

A gloriously sunny day like this one makes me so happy. After meeting up with Alex and Hope near Chelsea Market, we looked for a location to take outfit pictures. When bloggers get together, we can’t help but be a little silly, so we tried all sorts of poses- including me swinging from a fence and Alex leaning into a tree!

Le Week-end 04.19.13

Ooof, this week. I’m mighty glad it’s over. I was kind of in a funk, but at least the week did start off on a high note. Let’s skip to that part, shall we?

// On Monday I went to the swanky offices of Bob Mackie for a viewing party of Ru Paul’s Drag Race– one of the most entertaining shows on television.  Bob Mackie was a guest judge on the show this week and he was great with his critiques. Chris and Jessica prepared an amazing spread for us, including the most fragrant sparkling wine from Magnifico (seriously, this wine smelled so good and tasted great too) and good eats from Digby’s Cafe. On top of stuffing my face with all of these yummy treats, it was so much fun to watch the show with a bunch of people who love it as much as I do!

// On Tuesday I finally got a chance to catch up on my favorite Sunday shows- Game of Thrones and Mad Men. I don’t want to give any spoilers in case you’re behind, but I just want to emphasize how great both of these shows are!

// I found out one of my coworkers is leaving- next week will be her last at the office. I’m pretty bummed about it because she was one of the first people I met when I started my job and she’s the last girl to go from my original group of work friends. Her news made me think again about where I am in life and where I want to go- something I’m still trying out work out.

// On Thursday, Barnes & Noble in Union Square hosted an event with Brian McGreevy, author of Hemlock Grove. Hemlock Grove is also a new Netflix series that was just released last night and the author talked about the differences between writing the novel and the script for the series. The hostess also spoke to a couple of the actors (Bill Skarsgård and Landon Liboiron) about what it was like to bring the novel to life. I’m planning to watch the series on Netflix and I’m curious as to whether I’ll like it as much as the book!

// In exactly one week I’m going to see Solange perform in Brooklyn– I cannot wait!

// This week’s picture was taken on my way to brunch in the Upper East Side. I love that the flowers are in bloom all over the city- it’s so beautiful.

// If you guys haven’t already seen Dove’s latest beauty campaign, you really should watch this video. It really does make you think about how we perceive ourselves versus how others view us.

// How well can you multitask? You can find out from this series of fun little exercises. Turns out I’m good at focusing on one task and quick to switch from one task to another, but slower at task management!

// I love Jennifer Lawrence and I am so excited for the next Hunger Games movie- here’s the latest trailer!
