Sweater Weather

Sweater-Weather

After the heat wave a couple of weeks ago, we had a pre-fall day where the temperature dipped into the 60s. Although I had to do a double take when I saw the weather widget on my phone, I’m not going to lie- it was a welcome break from the oppressive humidity. I love the summertime, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t be excited for fall too!

You see, sweaters are my favorite and I love when it’s cool enough to wear them. A good chunk of my closet is taken up by sweaters, of both the pullover and cardigan varieties. I’ve even had the urge to knit something lately, which hasn’t happened in a long time. I love something simple like this gray and white colorblocked sweater or this cute cropped peace and love sweater. Also, how great is the sweater in the picture above? I love the colors and the texture, and hello- stripes!

This is my kind of dress. The dress makes a statement all on its own, so on a hot summer day like this one I didn’t have to think too hard about how I could look presentable. I just threw on this dress, added a colorful pair of sandals and some lipstick, and I was ready to go. I also love that the material is really light. I had ease of movement and was very comfortable, so this dress is a win in my book!

On this day, Alex and I headed to Williamsburg to work on a little project with Fohr Card. We walked to a new part of Williamsburg that I wasn’t familiar with and I was taken with all of the pretty stoops and colorful bikes. Even though Brooklyn is just across the river, it can feel like a whole different world and it was fun to have a mini-adventure in Brooklyn that day.

  • READING // The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Galbraith (a.k.a. J.K. Rowling). A few of my friends wanted to read it so I jumped on the bandwagon and now we’re all reading it together. So far I’m liking it! I also just got an email from the library that I can now download Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris. I’ve heard that it’s a real hoot, so I’m excited to start that one soon. The last few books I’ve read, I’ve liked and not loved, so I’m hoping these two will be 4 or 5 star- books!
  • LISTENING TO // “Go” by Delilah. I first heard this song on So You Think You Can Dance (more on that below) a few weeks ago and since then I listen to it at least once a day.
  • WATCHING // So You Think You Can Dance. I LOVE THIS SHOW. Each season, I wonder if I’ll get tired of it, but no- I’ll never get tired of super talented people doing amazing choreography to great songs. Every once in a while I’ll get caught in the rabbit hole of watching clips from previous seasons and reminiscing on my favorite past dancers. Seriously, I could watch this stuff for hours. Here are three favorites from this season so far: Amy and Fik-shun- “After Party,” Haley and Curtis- “Go,” Malece and Marko- “In the Embers.” Do you watch SYTYCD?
  • Also, I recently binge-watched the new Netflix series Orange is the New Black when it was released a couple of weeks ago. It’s the story of a woman from NYC who is sent to prison to serve a 15 month-sentence for drug charges. I thought it was funny and that the characters were really interesting. Have you watched any episodes yet?

Tell me: What are you currently reading? Listening to? Watching?

I Can See It In Your Eyes

Preston or Percey (arrow graphics via vmac + cheese)

So my week has been off to a bit of a bumpy start. On Sunday my eyes were bothering me a little, but I assumed it was just my contacts acting up, so I swapped them out for my glasses and thought nothing more of it. On Monday, I noticed that my vision was little blurry as I walked to work and by the time I got to work twenty minutes later, my eyes were pretty irritated. I thought it was my contacts again, so I went to the bathroom, rinsed them and put them back in. Finally, when it clearly wasn’t getting any better, I went to talk to my boss and she encouraged me to visit the doctor immediately.

I left work and made an appointment with the eye doctor. While I was waiting, the irritation was getting worse and it was really difficult to keep the affected eye open. When the doc took a look, she told me I had a large scratch dead center on my cornea, which meant no contacts for me for a while, as well as some prescription eye drops. It’s been a couple days now and I’m happy to say that my eye is doing a lot better with the meds and rest from my contacts!

While I am bummed about being without my contacts for a while, this little incident did give me the push I needed to finally buy a new pair of glasses (My current glasses are from oh, maybe 6+ years ago? Not to mention that that prescription is no longer current!). I took a trip down to the Warby Parker flagship yesterday morning and tried on a bunch of frames. I’ve already ordered a pair and they’re on their way to me right now! I’m so excited to have a pair of glasses that I actually like and feel comfortable wearing outside the house.

Tell me: Which one would you choose?
(I’ve already made my decision but I’m so curious to see which pair you guys prefer!)
