Holiday Hair Inspiration

holiday hair, holiday hairstyles, holiday party, holiday hair ideas

Yesterday I mentioned that I like getting dressed up for holiday parties, and for me that means actually attempting to style my hair. On a normal morning I just straighten my bangs and go, but when I have a party to attend I like to put in a little extra effort. Nothing too complicated- just styled enough so it looks like I actually tried! I turned to my favorite source for inspiration- Pinterest. I found a few different hairstyles that I loved and thought I might be able to recreate. Pantene generously sent me a few different products to use to achieve my perfect holiday party hair. I’m particularly excited to try out the Intense Moisturizing Shampoo and the Moisturizing Conditioner because my hair needs all the moisture it can get. If it’s too dry, then it turns coarse and brittle, which is no good. I also want to try the Heat Potion Serum, which is supposed to serve as a protective barrier against the damaging effects of too much heat styling (for the complete list of products I received, see below!)

Tell me: What’s your go-to holiday hairstyle? Later in the week I’ll be revealing which of the hairstyles above I chose and sharing how to get my look- don’t forget to check back!

Black Velvet

holiday dress, holiday attire, what to wear to a holiday party, velvet dress

I absolutely love holiday party season. It’s so fun to get dressed up and be merry with friends and family. My go-to holiday party look is simple- a pretty dress + tights + heels + red lips. I’ve had this dress for a few seasons now and it always sees a lot of action during this time of year.

Does it look like it’s freezing in these photos? Because it totally was! About two seconds after I took off my coat I was completely numb and Alex and I started giggling uncontrollably. Mostly because we were both fighting a battle with the wind/snow and clearly losing. Shooting pictures with Alex is always fun. We’re like the post office- rain or snow we keep going!

I’ll be talking more about holiday party attire throughout the rest of this week. Check back on the blog tomorrow to see a few ideas on how to style your hair for a holiday party!

ice skating, holidays, christmas, winter activities

Oh man, it has been a trying week. Has it been like that for anyone else? On the one hand, this season is wonderful-  for example, holiday parties galore (yay!). On the other hand, this season can drive you mad- deadlines and crazy busyness at work (boo!). I’m getting through it by focusing on the parts of this season I love, like fun winter activities and twinkle lights everywhere. Also, in less than a week I’ll be heading home to CA- I can’t wait for that! If you had a tough week like me, here are some interesting links to take your mind off things.

– I’m loving NPR’s Book Concierge– there are so many great books on this list. I’m thinking about doing a post on my favorite books from 2013- we’ll see if that actually happens!

Allison Janney continues to be the best (I’m thinking some West Wing viewing is in order this weekend).

Shonda Rhimes provides a little bit of insight on Scandal. I almost can’t handle this show. Did anyone else see last night’s mid-season finale?

– How do we feel about Instagram Direct?

– I loved this quote on Smita’s Instagram page- this is exactly how I feel about Christmas.

– Omg, these red velvet cookies look absolutely decadent.

– This is not a link, but I’d love to get your input on something- What is your favorite part about the holidays? If I get enough responses, I might share them in a post next week!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
