Flyaway

aeropostale crop top, how to wear a crop top, summer outfit crop top, crop top summer, black and white outfit Yes indeed, I am wearing a crop top. I’m a bit surprised myself. It’s something that I’ve wanted to try, but let’s face it- crop tops are not for everyone. However, I really liked this open knit version with a flyaway back when I spotted it online, so I thought I’d give it a go!

aeropostale crop top, how to wear a crop top, summer outfit crop top, crop top summer To ease into this trend, I thought I would start with one that’s slightly longer than your typical crop top- this one hits me right at the belly button. The flyaway back is what really sold me on this top. I wore a little black bandeau underneath so that you can’t see my bra and paired it with my most comfortable black jeans. I was running out the door and forgot to put on jewelry, but I did get a chance to accessorize with a red lip.

strappy flats, closed strapped flats, studded flats, studded strappy flats, aeropostale flats I love the studded detail on these strappy flats. I only wore them for a bit yesterday so I can’t fully comment on how comfortable they are yet, but I’ll probably wear them to work this week and really test them out. If they do turn out to be comfy, then I’ll be happy to check off one box on my summer shoe shopping list.

flyaway back, crop top, summer top open back What did you guys get up to this weekend? It was a good one for me. I had a bit of a movie marathon and watched Blue is the Warmest Color, When Harry Met Sally, and How to Marry a Millionaire. I also went with my friend Liza to a karaoke bar on Saturday night. This was different from my usual karaoke experience. Typically the group I go with gets a private room, but this time it was public and I noticed that a lot of people who sang were really good. You could tell that some of there were regulars and came to show off their skills. I decided to spare everyone the pain of my off-key voice, but I did enjoy watching and observing the other people there.

Currently 02.

currently reading, currently listening to, i'm looking forward to, currently watching

Listening to “Am I Wrong” by Nico & Vinz. I’ve had this song on repeat for the past couple of weeks and I’m still not tired of it.

Looking forward to Summer Fridays! Today is our last full Friday and then Summer Fridays start next week. I like to take advantage of the few extra hours in my day by doing a little shopping or meeting up with friends for a little picnic in the park.

Reading the first two chapters of An Untamed State by Roxane Gay. I first heard about this book on one of the podcasts I listen to and then I was reminded of it when I read a review on River City Reading. Longreads published an excerpt of the first two chapters and after reading them, I’m further convinced that I need to pick up this book immediately. From what I’ve heard about it and read so far, this novel is tense, gut-wrenching, and hard to put down.

Watching Orphan Black. Does anyone else watch this show? I watched the first season last year and I was so excited when season 2 began a few weeks ago. I don’t want to give anything away, but I’d say that if you like sci-fi with a bit of action mixed in, you may like this too. Mostly I can’t get over the acting chops of the lead actress, Tatiana Maslany. Somebody give this woman all the awards!

Day to Night

day to night look, summer day to night look, transition outfit from day to night, cos yellow jacquard dress

I love pieces that are versatile (who doesn’t?!). As I was browsing the web the other day, I spotted this gorgeous yellow jacquard dress from Cos. Cos is a brand I’ve been hearing a lot about lately (they’re a sister company of H&M) and they’ve just recently started shipping to the US. The silhouette of this dress is simple, but the bright color and subtle pattern add some interest.

For a daytime look I’d pair it with a long tassel necklace and strappy metallic sandals. This camel-colored tote would be perfect for running errands and if I were feeling really adventurous, I might top off the look with a straw hat. To transition this to nighttime, you could swap those sandals for a pair of nude heels and leave behind your roomy tote in favor of a small white clutch to carry the essentials. Throw your hair into a bouncy ponytail to better show off your dangly triangle earrings, add a swipe of lipstick, and you’re good to go!

The Low-Heeled Sandal

summer sandals, grown-up sandals, classy sandals, sandals low heel, black heeled sandals, block heel sandals

When the temperature hits 80 degrees, I think it’s time to pop out the sandals- don’t you agree? We’ve had a little taste of the coming summer yesterday and today, which has made me realize that I need to get my sandal situation in order. The black pair that I wore regularly last summer are not quite as fresh as they used to be, so I’d like to get a new pair of everyday sandals.

I’ve been seeing a lot of variations of the low-heeled sandal this spring. I like that they’re slightly elevated- to me it seems like a more grown-up version of your typical sandal. You guys know that I generally wear flat shoes, but I can do a little heel as long as it’s nearly as comfortable as wearing a flat. I think it’s time for me to put this trend to the test to see if I can find a comfy pair!
