First of the Season

j crew chino shorts, joe fresh white top, white summer top, dressing for hot weather, how to dress in summerOn Friday it was shaping up to be a pretty uneventful weekend, which was certainly ok with me. My grand plans consisted of: get a donut on National Donut Day, finish the first Harry Potter book and binge watch the second season of Orange is the New Black. That’s pretty much what I did on Friday and Saturday, but on Sunday, my roommate and I met up with a couple friends for a little picnic in Central Park. It was my first picnic of the season and the people-watching was extra entertaining. One guy was celebrating his birthday with a group of friends, which he told us as he passed by our blanket a couple of times. Meanwhile there was a homeless guy in another corner, who happened to have a megaphone and kept making comments directed at the birthday party. At one point he offered us cookies, which we politely declined since we’d already munched on some deliciously gooey cookies from Levain Bakery. Sometimes you just have to marvel at the wide varieties of people in this city!

It was a bit hot and sticky out earlier in the afternoon, giving us just a taste of what the summer will be like. For my outfit, I went with a white top (I told you I’m having a thing with whites this summer) and pair of evergreen shorts that I bought at J. Crew last summer on super sale. I tied my hair up with a lovely little gift from my sister- the Bien Fait bandana from Madewell. I received a mysterious eBay package on Saturday (the bandana) and I was confused because I hadn’t ordered it. I did have a saved search (thanks for showing me how to do that Lydia!), so I thought maybe I’d accidentally purchased it somehow. Turns out my sister had sneakily bought it for me- she knows how much I regret not purchasing the tee, but thought this little surprise might cheer me up, which it absolutely did. I can’t wait until she makes her annual trip to NYC to visit me this coming September!

Thank you Sara! The scarf tied in my hair is definitely a different look for me, but I think I like it :) Plus it kept the hair off my face and neck on what was a pretty warm day!

Surprise gifts are by far the best. Glad you have a little Bien Fait in your closet now.
I think you have a perfect summer picnic look, and I think you’ve gotten June off to just the right start.

  11. Those shorts are cute! I’d love to go on a picnic, but it’s hard to get everyone in the same place at the same time. Not all of my friends work 9-5 jobs, so everyone’s schedules are all very different.

Thanks Emily! I know what you mean- my book club hasn’t met in about four months because it’s been difficult to coordinate everyone’s schedules.

I was binge watching OITNB but then didn’t want it to end so I’m savoring the last few episodes.

You look SUPER adorable – love the headwrap!

Me too! I sped through the first five or so episodes, but then I slowed down because there’s so little TV right now and I want to have stuff to watch. Thanks so much Kim :)
