Bare Legs

Hello kitty cats! This cat print dress is certainly not a shy print, but I do love it. I think the fact that it’s black and white makes it much more wearable and it’s easy to throw on when I’m not quite sure what to wear.

It felt more like summer than fall this past weekend, but I don’t mind since it’s still warm enough to bare my legs. I’m going to hold off on tights for as long as I can! The leaves have started to change colors and I think they’re so pretty. Since I grew up in California, I didn’t really see that seasonal transformation until I moved to the East Coast.

It’s been so nice having some time off work and hanging out with my sister. With the sun shining and my iced coffee in hand, I’m a happy girl. Can it always be like this?

Basically all my sister and I have done so far is shop until we drop. I knew that she’d want to go shopping in the city, so I’ve been holding off on shopping for the past few weeks so that we could go together.

October is quickly approaching and I’m working on finalizing my capsule wardrobe before then. There were a few things on my list that I wanted to check out in the store, but when I tried them on, they weren’t like I expected. The first day of shopping was a little bit frustrating, but we had much better luck on the second day. I haven’t checked off everything on my list yet, but I think I’ve made some pretty good progress.

As we were walking home on Wednesday, we saw the prettiest cotton candy sunset. Thanks NYC for reminding me how lovely you can be.

star-crossed smile, n and n in nyc, 30 rock, 30 rockefeller plaza, sister visit

When we were growing up, my sister and I didn’t always get along. Of course I loved her because she was my sister, but I wouldn’t say that we were close. I thought she was annoying- out of my siblings, she’s the closest to me in age and I felt that she was always in my space. I’m sure a lot of that stemmed from the fact that we always shared a room when we were kids, right up until I moved out of the house.

We also have completely different personalties. She’s outgoing and opinionated and I’m quiet and introverted. Those who know me in real life know that I’m pretty reserved and I tend to put up walls. I did that to my sister too- I wouldn’t let her get too close.

Things began to change when I moved away to the East Coast to go to college. Since I wasn’t living at home, I no longer knew every single detail of her life and we began to talk on the phone and text in order to keep in touch. I was growing up and experiencing new things, and she was too. Instead of viewing her as my annoying little sister, I began to see her as a young woman and someone that I could confide in. Having separate spaces certainly helped too. We weren’t living on top of each other anymore and I think we both needed that room to breathe.

Several years later, we’re now much closer. We talk and text regularly and enjoy keeping up with each other’s lives. She can lift my spirits when I’m low and I can talk it out with her when she needs advice. When I was younger, I never would have guessed that our relationship would have developed this way, but I’m really grateful that it has. It’s become a tradition for her to visit me annually and it’s one of the highlights of my year. She arrived safe and sound last night and I’m ready for some NYC adventures with her!

Tell me: Do you have siblings? Do you get along with them?
