Honestly, I felt like I was playing catch-up for most of this week. As I mentioned before, my schedule recently changed and I’m still adjusting. However, this week when I left work, it was light outside and that is everything. I have a few fun activities planned for the weekend. Tonight I’m getting drinks/catching up with a former work colleague. Tomorrow I’m planning to do brunch and a little bit of shopping with another friend (watch out wallet). Three cheers for longer days and warmer weather!

– Victoria wrote a fantastic post on the life lessons she learned while living in NYC. Seriously, go read this and you’ll see why she’s one of my favorite bloggers.

– I liked Jackie’s post on her recent reads. I think we have similar tastes!

– I love this swingy striped dress. Bring on the easy, breezy, spring clothes.

– Kimberly wrote a great post on chic flats for spring. The timing is perfect because I’m in the market for new shoes. As much as I sometimes wish I was a heels girl, in reality it’s flats all day, every day.

– An interesting article about why the movie Serena went straight to video (even though it stars J. Law and and Bradley Cooper). I actually read the book a couple years ago and didn’t like it. Based on this article, it sounds like the movie isn’t that great either.

– One of my favorite beauty vloggers, Hey Claire, just rebooted her blog. I love the Closet Confidential post she wrote on memories surrounding an item from her closet (basically like a #TBT for clothes). It got me wondering whether I have any clothes that bring up fun memories!

P.S. Just wanted to give a little shoutout to my mom and little bro because it’s their birthday today! Yes, they do have the same birthday!

Wanderlust: Switzerland

switzerland, i want to go to there, wanderlust, what to see in switzerland, beautiful places in switzerland, geneva, zurich

One of my many goals this year is to take a trip somewhere, preferably somewhere I have to get to by plane. After finishing my most recent read, Hausfrau by Jill Alexander Essbaum (more on that book later in the month), one European country jumped to the top of my “I Want to Go to There” list. That country is Switerzland! The main character in the book, Anna, is an expat living in Switzerland. When she’s not happy with her life, she takes solace in her surroundings. The way that the city center and the nearby towns are described has me convinced that I’d find Switzerland very charming. Have you ever been?

The Drapey Trench

drapey trench jacket, drapey trench coat, get the look, trench coats for women, spring 2015 trends

I’m on the hunt for a new spring jacket. I was trying to decide on a silhouette and I noticed the drapey trench popping up everywhere. I like this twist on the classic trench coat. They’re usually made of a lightweight material and I think they give outfits a relaxed polish. As you can see above, stores are carrying them in pretty, light colors that are perfect for spring. I’ve definitely decided that I want a colored coat and I’m leaning towards a blush/pink coat, grey, or perhaps light blue. I may still end up going for a more structured coat, like this pretty pink coat that I have my eye on. What do you think of the drapey trench?

Life Around Here

coffee, flowers, the little things, coffee, white sheets, relaxing weekend

As I was catching up on blogs earlier this week, I saw this post on Let it Be Beautiful and thought it would be nice to take stock of my life currently.

FEELING: A bit out of sorts. I’m someone who likes to have a routine and stick to it, so I don’t do so well with changes at first. And the last few days have been crappy weather-wise. I guess I’m just ready for Spring to get here with it’s warmer weather and the feeling of a fresh start.

THINKING ABOUT: My spring wardrobe. The unofficial spending ban is lifted and I’m hoping to do a bit of shopping soon. I’ve thought about what I’d like to add (not quite as intensively as I did for the capsule wardrobe, but thanks to that experience, I feel like I have a better idea of what I want) and I’ve got my list. I already took advantage of a J. Crew Factory sale yesterday and have ordered a couple items, but I’m planning to do most of my shopping in person. The temperatures haven’t really warmed up yet, but I’m looking at things that will transition well into spring. Also, a closet clean out needs to happen. Perhaps this weekend?

LISTENING TO: I haven’t seen the movie or read the books, but I’ve gotta say that there are some good songs on The Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack.

WATCHING: I binge-watched House of Cards last weekend, so I’m done with Season 3. I finally caught up with Downton Abbey too. Can I just say that Rose and Atticus are such a cute couple?!

EATING: I recently made this beef and broccoli stir fry and served it with rice noodles and I was so pleased with the way everything turned out. I also tried making donuts for the first time last weekend, which is something I can now check off my list.

READING: Hausfrau by Jill Alexander Essbaum. I’m getting to read this one a bit before it’s released later this month and I’m really liking it so far. It’s about a bored housewife living abroad in Switzerland. On the surface her life seems perfect, but behind the scenes everything is falling apart.

THANKFUL FOR: Friends to celebrate with.

LOVING: This purple nail polish (Lacey Lilac by Sally Hansen). I’ve switched over to my springy colors now!
