A+ Weekend

It was the best weekend I’ve had in a while.

SATURDAY

I was so excited for Saturday because I knew it was going to be a beautiful day. My roommate and I had a friend visiting from Philly for the day and we met him at Westville East for brunch. It’s a small, but cozy spot and they had all of the windows wide open to let the spring breeze blow through. I ordered hot dogs and fries and it felt like summer (I can’t remember the last time I had a hot dog and for me, hot dogs = barbecue = summer).

Since the weather was so gorgeous, I wanted to take advantage and spend most of the day outdoors. After brunch, we made a quick pit stop back at our apartment. I actually changed my clothes because I was too hot. I’d forgotten how to dress for nice weather. Darn you winter! After I changed into shorts and a tee, we walked over to our neighborhood park and found an empty bench to relax on. It was just so pleasant and I was one happy girl indeed.

When the sun was highest overhead, we strolled down into the East Village again to buy iced coffees from Fresco. Then we decided to pop back inside for a little bit of rest. We squeezed in one episode of Empire before we were out the door to meet a friend of mine from high school who was visiting from Baltimore. We walked to Koreatown, where we’d booked a karaoke room. We had so much fun selecting and singing some of our favorite songs. Four years ago, I would have never done karaoke because I was way too self-conscious. Now I’ve been several times over the years and I always have a great time. I’ll stick to private rooms with friends though- I don’t want to subject the general public to my caterwauling! It was still warm well into the night, so after karaoke we walked our tired voices back home and watched a bit more TV before bed.

SUNDAY

Around noon, I met my friend at Chelsea Market. We picked up some tacos from Los Tacos, which I had never tried before and which were pretty tasty. After that we strolled over to Fifth Avenue to do a little shopping. I had one return to make and I also wanted to pop into Sephora to take advantage of the Beauty Insider sale.

My friend had to head off mid-afternoon, but I decided to stay on Fifth Avenue and attempt to do a bit more shopping. I say attempt because all the stores were so busy/crowded. I tried for a bit, but I prefer to shop in a much calmer environment. On my way home, I stopped by Bedford Cheese Shop to pick up some bread and meats to snack on later.

It was a brief stop at home because soon I headed out again to meet up with another friend that was visiting from Boston. A few of us met up in Hell’s Kitchen and had drinks at a spot called Vynl. After our friend left to catch her bus, we all said our goodbyes and my roomie and I went back to our apartment. I spent the last few hours of the weekend prepping for the week ahead and doing my usual Sunday routine (a.k.a. painting my nails).

It was a wonderful, full weekend. What did you get up to this past weekend?

  1. Sounds like you had my kind of weekend. We just had some chef and foodie friends over and cooked together. Easy, relaxing, and somewhat calming. Somewhere between getting the French baguettes and bleu cheese, I thought about shopping, but it did not happen. <3 I'm also not a fan of huge crowds when shopping.

That sounds like a very nice weekend :) Gah, I don’t like shopping when it’s crowded, but I also want to try things on! I need to figure out a way around this!

Ohhh wow, it seems like many of your good friends were in town over the weekend. That is very fun! I always enjoy reading what you’ve been up to because you’re so descriptive that I find it so easy to picture everything. I had an incredible weekend at Star Wars Celebration which I hope to share more about later this week on my blog.

It’s true! It wasn’t really planned, but it seems like everyone decided to visit on the same weekend (one of my friends correctly pointed out that it was the first really nice weekend of the year). Awww, I’m so glad you enjoyed the post- I always wonder if people want to hear all the tiny little details! I’m planing to catch up on my blogs tonight, so I should be reading about your weekend if you’ve posted it :)

  5. Wow, you had a busy weekend! But in the best way possible! I’m jealous :) Makes me wish more of my friends lived close by or visited. It was actually my birthday this weekend but my boyfriend was away at a conference so we’re celebrating next weekend and the one after that too :D Here’s to more busy weekends!

  6. Sounds like you had an awesome weekend! On Saturday I met up with a blogger (Kristin of Super Space Chick) and we had crepes, ice cream, and iced tea. On Sunday I relaxed and read a ton.

Speaking of meeting up with bloggers, we should totally hang out! I’m busy pretty much every weekend from now until mid-June except for May 2nd and 9th, so if you’re free I would love to meet ya! :)

I’d love to hang out! I’m not sure about those dates, but let me double-check my calendar and get back to you! Also, I’ve been meaning to tell you that I received your card in the mail a few weeks ago :D Thanks so much! I’m planning to write back soon.

That just sounds delightful! I spent my saturday attempting to clean out my closet, and my sunday attempting to score some Lilly for Target items…. Not nearly as fun or fulfilling as I’m sure your weekend was!

Were you able to score any Lilly items? I heard it was just as bad as Missoni for Target in terms of availability and such! A closet cleanout is very good. That’s something that I’ve been meaning to do and putting off for weeks!
