On Nnenna’s Nails #28: Green Ombré

Left to Right: Essie Grow Faster Base Coat // Julep Susie// Nails Inc. Haymarket // NYC Tudor City Teal
Julep Emilie // Forever 21 Green (old, but this color is similar) // Seche Vite Top Coat // Sephora by OPI Quick Dry Spray (I LOVE this product!)

I’ve been meaning to try this style of ombré manicure for a while and last Sunday I gave it a go. I finally accumulated enough different shades of green for this to work (side note: you guys, I have so many polishes in the mint green family- that’s how obsessed I am with that color!) There’s no technique involved here- I just painted each nail with a different shade of green. I feel like this is perfect for spring because it reminds me of green things growing!

Gold- Nails Inc. Lanesborough Place // Pink- Zoya Madison
Red- Julep Catherine // Gold Metallic Sharpie

Using a gold metallic sharpie as a nail art tool is pure genius if you ask me! After seeing this manicure on Pinterest, I knew I had to try this trick out for myself. I used the sharpie two different ways- to draw hearts in the look on the left and to add gold tips for the look on the right. The consistency of the sharpie is so close to my gold nail polish- you can’t really tell that I drew the details on later!

If you’re going to use the sharpie, it’s best to wait until your nails are fully and completely dry, otherwise the tip will dig into your polish. Once your nails are dry, draw on any design you want with the sharpie.  Then wait for the sharpie to dry, add a top coat (try not to let the brush touch your design) and you’re all done! To see the first manicure in motion, take a look at the little video I made and if you’re looking for more manicure inspiration, you should check out my pinterest board!

On Nnenna's Nails #26: Oh Christmas Tree 2

I bet you could have guessed that sooner or later I would have to bust out the Christmas nail art! I had some time to spare yesterday, so I played around with these colors and ended up with this little Christmas tree design. The lines are not as sharp as I would have liked, but not bad considering that I was free-handing with a bobby pin. As a Christmas present for myself, I might just have to pick up a set of proper nail art brushes!

Don’t forget, you can get 20% off on purchases of $20 or more from Julep- just go to their site and use the code VIP20 to get your discount! Also, check back on Wednesday for my last gift guide of the season- the $10 and under set!

White- Julep Gunta // Gold Glitter- Forever 21 Gold Rush

I’ve been having fun playing around with different holiday manicures- busting out my favorite red, gold and glitter polishes.  This time I wanted to switch it up color-wise and try something besides red or gold; enter this bold blue polish from Julep. Then, since it is the holiday season, I had to add a coat of glitter for the sparkle factor. The end result reminds me a little bit of a starry night sky :)
