I remember when I became addicted to watching beauty videos on Youtube. Over the holidays last year, I was bored and browsing the internet. Normally when one of the blogs I read posts a video, I mark it to ‘read later’ because there’s more of a time commitment with video. Well, I had nothing to do that afternoon, so I decided to go back and watch a couple of videos I’d saved. Then I fell down the rabbit hole. Once I’d started, I just kept going and going for hours.
I’m still such a newb when it comes to makeup and beauty, so I feel like I can learn a lot from the tips and tricks that these ladies share. I was discussing my addiction with a friend recently and we swapped recommendations of beauty channels that we like to watch. Here are my favorite beauty youtubers at the moment:
- Shirley B. Eniang: When I’m researching a new beauty product, I try searching for images of people with a similar skin color as mine and I don’t often find a lot of results. I love Shirley’s channel because she has darker skin like me, so I feel like I can really rely on her recommendations. Plus, she’s so gorgeous!
- Essie Button: I think Estée has an awesome personality- she’s fun, engaging and approachable. Watching her videos kind of feels like I’m getting beauty recommendations from a friend.
- Lily Pebbles: Another British beauty blogger that I like. I believe Lily focuses on more affordable makeup which is great because I know that the products she recommends won’t be super, crazy-expensive.
- Lisa Aldridge: Lisa is a well-known makeup artist and it’s clear that she has tons of experience. She always seems so classy and elegant and I really enjoy watching her videos.
And here are a few other channels that I’ve checked out: Michelle Phan, Fleur de Force, Zoella, Miss Glamorazzi, Tanya Burr, Hello October, Rach Martino, and I Covet Thee. Looking at my list, I can see that I’m really into the British beauty bloggers. What can I say, I love a British accent! Are there any American beauty youtube channels that you think I should watch?

You guys seemed to like my fall nail polish guide, so I thought it was high time I put together another one for spring. I’m starting to see a few signs of spring around, just enough to give me hope that winter might actually be coming to an end. It certainly seems like the spring showers have begun- I got drenched on my way home from work on Wednesday (the one day I forget my umbrella at home!). As you can see, there are no neutrals here- I’m all about happy colors to banish the last few dreary days of winter.
Seriously, how do I get my hair to look like this? Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always wanted long, flowing locks and my hairdos have ranged from medium long to really long. Suddenly, however, I’m seeing versions of the long bob everywhere and for the first time I’m actually tempted by a shorter ‘do. I feel like everyone is chopping their hair these days- bloggers, celebrities, coworkers, friends.
This haircut just looks so breezy and effortless and the lightness would be really nice when the temperatures start to rise. I have a hair appointment tomorrow and it’s long overdue. Despite all this talk, I probably won’t be getting anything out of the norm, but it’s fun to think about it. Hey, who knows? Maybe I will be spontaneous and get it cut!

Today I wanted to share one of my new favorite beauty buys, Revlon’s ColorBurst Matte Balm in Standout. I think these have been out for a couple of months now, but I just discovered them in December when I was home in California. I spotted the display in the beauty aisle during one of my many trips to Target (I certainly took advantage while I was home- I went five times in one week!).
I’d been meaning to try the Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain, but instead I grabbed this new matte balm. Since my lips are big, I think that anything that’s too glossy can be a bit much on me. I gravitate towards lip products with a matte finish and I usually I don’t go for anything shimmery or glittery.
I love this matte balm. First of all, it’s easy to apply and I can get great color with just a few swipes. It doesn’t dry out my lips and there’s just a hint of minty tingle when it’s first applied, which I like. I’ve found that it lasts about 2-3 hours on me and it fades nicely. If you prefer a glossier finish, you could also try their new ColorBurst Lacquer Balm.
Tell me: Have you tried any of Revlon’s lip balms?
