The Gallery Wall

The Gallery Wall

The Gallery Wall

Even though I’ve been in my new apartment for a few months now, we haven’t really gotten around to decorating the place. This year, I decided that I wanted to remedy that, starting with my bedroom. I’ve long admired the look of a gallery wall and was hoping that I could create something similar in my room. However, when I thought of all the holes I would have to put in my wall and the money needed to spend on purchasing frames, I started to rethink the idea of a gallery wall. Then I stumbled on this image, which provided the perfect solution to my problems- a washi-tape gallery wall.

It cost me less than $15 to buy these different colored tapes and I already had all of these pictures. Some are pages cut carefully from magazines, a few came from last year’s calendar, a couple are postcards, and the picture of me was created by the talented Melanie. The colors of my room are yellow, gray, white, and blue and I wanted to stick with those colors when making my frames. Since my walls are already yellow, I thought it would be cool to add pops of blue and white. This is just the beginning- I definitely plan to add more images over time because I’ve got a lot more wall to fill.  The great thing too is that the washi tape doesn’t damage the walls one bit and I can easily swap pictures in and out.

Tell me: What do you think of my gallery wall?

Nnenna’s Nest #2: Deck the Halls!

Let the countdown to Christmas begin!  Right after Thanksgiving, I picked up a couple of things from the store to add a little Christmas cheer to my apartment- the snowman dishtowel and that cute Santa mug.  Yesterday, I was in a crafty mood, so I made a mini advent calendar with some supplies I had lying around.  I was so excited to flip over the first little ornament- I can’t believe it’s December already!

Tell me: Have you put up any holiday decor in your home?

As a new blog feature, I thought it would be fun to show you guys little bits and pieces of my home!  =) When I moved into my new apartment, one of the things I was most excited about was decorating my new place.  Even though I lived in a cute apartment over the summer (I was subletting from a friend), it’s so nice to have a place to call your own.  One of my first stops for home goods was Anthropologie where I picked up the pretty measuring cups, tea towel, and bowls pictured above.  Afterwards, I found those sweet little measuring spoons in a store called Bowery Kitchen in Chelsea Market.  Lastly, I spotted that star-shaped napkin holder during an Ikea trip and it was love at first sight.  I mean, isn’t it just perfect for me?!  All of these things contribute to making our apartment more homey and of course it’s more fun to cook with cute utensils! =)

Tell me: What’s your favorite item in your kitchen and where did you find it?

Also, I had a great time this past weekend on my first trip to Washington, D.C.- pictures to come on Friday!

Ice Cream Paint Job

After all the craziness of Fashion Week, it’s been nice to relax in my apartment and work on making it feel like home.  If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll know that the very first thing I did when I moved into my apartment was paint my room.

Before pictures

The day before I moved in, I asked two of my good friends over to my place to help me paint my room a sunny yellow.  Not going to lie, my room is rather small, so I wanted to brighten up the space with a happy color.  I also wanted to paint my bookshelf so that it would blend in with the rest of the white-colored furniture in my room.  With a bottle of wine and good company, the painting job was no hard task at all!
