Who’s excited for the Fourth of July next week? I’m still trying to figure out my plans, but as long as they involve a BBQ/potluck of some sort, I’ll be good. I’m most excited about having an extra day off work- I need a break! I love dressing to theme for any holiday, so today I thought it would be fun to pull together some patriotic pieces. You can go full red, white and blue with your outfit, or you could keep it subtle with just an Americana accessory. The best part? Most of these items are under $50 and everything is under $60!
Tell me: What do you have planned for the Fourth?

When my roommate told me that a candy shop had opened up near our apartment, I was beyond excited. Last weekend he stumbled onto a place called Handsome Dan’s, which had a store in Williamsburg and recently opened up a location in the East Village. He brought me back an order of their Earl Grey cotton candy which was pretty yummy, even though there was only a hint of the earl grey flavor.
I didn’t do much this weekend other than watch soccer (I’m cheering for Spain and the US), but I did venture out yesterday to visit the candy shop. The sun was out in full force so I decided to put another new crop top to the test. I like the little phrase on this one and thought it paired nicely with my black quilted mini. The fit on the tank is loose and the skirt comes up pretty high, so I felt comfortable wearing this crop top out for a bit. In keeping with the casual weekend vibe, I slipped on some silver sneakers and we headed off to the candy store.
It was hard not to load up my bag, but in the end I went with a bunch of sour straws in a variety of flavors. I also ordered a raspberry snow cone, which was the perfect way to cool off in the heat. Having this candy store nearby is pretty dangerous- I know I’m going to want to visit it all the time!
Tell me: What did you get up to this weekend? Are you watching the World Cup?

I can mark this down in the books as another good weekend. A good deal of my time was spent outside, strolling around the neighborhood and lounging in the park. On Saturday we spontaneously decided to go to a tapas place for brunch/lunch. We went to Donostia in Alphabet City and unsurprisingly it was not crowded, given the time of day. We sat in a intimate little nook with a skylight and while the rain fell intermittently above, we snacked on our little plates of food. From there we headed to Van Leeuwen for a sweet treat. For some reason I’ve never had their ice cream (even though I’ve passed by that place many times) so I decided it was time to right that wrong. I got two scoops of sea salt caramel and vanilla ice cream- that vanilla may have been the best I’ve ever had.
It started raining again so we ducked into a local shop called Fresco. They have really yummy gelato, but this time I just ordered a huge mug of coffee. Once the skies cleared the temperature was perfect, so we then headed to my neighborhood park and chilled on the benches for a while. Full of tasty food and with the sun shining on my face, I could have sat on that park bench for the rest of the day, which is basically what we did.
Sunday was a bit more of the same- food, walking and parks. I introduced my friend to my favorite cupcake place in the area, Butter Lane and then we sat in Tompkins Square Park to enjoy our treat. It was a bit too hot to lounge around like the day before, so then we walked over to the Strand Bookstore, which is definitely one of my favorite places in NYC. We were on a mission to pick up the first few books in the Harry Potter series because my friend and I decided to read them together. After that I headed back to my place to work on the blog and that new project I hinted at in the last outfit post. I’m hoping to debut it sometime this week, so stay tuned!

As I was cleaning out my closet last weekend, I wondered if it was time to pack away all my sweaters for good. I did tuck away most of the heavier knits, but I left a few of the lightweight ones within easy reach. Boy am I glad I did, because this week we’ve experienced both summer and fall-like weather. Aside from keeping my lightweight long sleeves out for the fickle weather (Lydia described it perfectly), they’re good for cozying up at home or at night when the temperatures may drop. At least that’s what I’m telling myself as I try really hard to resist these two lightweight sweatshirts.
I love the entire ‘Bien Fait’ collection from Madewell. I have the phone case and I’m still get sad that I didn’t snag the t-shirt version before it sold out everywhere (ask my sister- I’ll text her from time to time, lamenting the fact that I didn’t lock it down when I had the chance). I was thrilled when they created a new version of the sweatshirt for summer in crisp white cotton. The other sweatshirt I’m loving is the ‘Oui Mon Cheri’ sweatshirt from J. Crew. I’m starting to realize I have a thing for whites this season and you know I’m a sucker for a French phrase!
