My style definitely varies- one day I’ll be wearing all-black clothing with my combat boots and the next day I’ll put on a ladylike dress like this one. I fought hard for this Jason Wu for Target dress when it came out nearly a year ago. First I had it in my cart and purchased it, then I received an email saying that my order had been cancelled because it was out of stock. After that I stalked online forums and Facebook until I found someone who had the dress in my size and was willing to sell it to me for the regular retail price. Despite all of that hullabaloo, I think this is the first time the dress has made it to the blog (though I’ve definitely worn it plenty of times since it finally arrived at my doorstep)!

Really, my favorite thing to thrown on is a dress like this one. It’s simple in shape and color, but has enough interesting details with the stripes on the bottom and the pleating on the bodice. This dress makes me feel very prim and proper- it’s the kind of outfit I’d wear to visit with older relatives or to an occasion like graduation. In this particular case though, I just wore it to work on a regular old Friday. You can’t tell from the pictures, but this dress has pockets too and dresses with pockets are just the best.

Get the Look Polka Dot Jeans Get the Look Polka Dot Jeans

I love the look of polka-dot jeans- I think they’re so fun! The ones pictured above are your typical denim washes, but polka-dot jeans also come in a variety of fun colors like these mint green ones from Target. For my personal taste, I prefer a darker wash, but I can’t decide if I like bigger or smaller dots better! If you want to try your hand at a DIY version of these, Heather posted a great tutorial on her blog a few weeks ago.

Tell me: Would you wear polka-dot jeans?

Splurge vs Steal Flats Splurge vs. Steal: Flats

splurge // steal (arrow graphics via vmac + cheese)

Tell me: Do you guys splurge when it comes to flats? I wear my black flats (the “steal” pair above) all the time and find that I need to replace them every few months- usually because I’ve worn them to pieces or because they’ve become too odorous (not cute, I know). It’s about time for me to replace my current pair and I’m wondering if it’s worth it to spend a bit more money in the hopes that they’ll last longer? Then again, for a pair of shoes that I know will be worn in all sorts of elements and conditions (I’ve said it before, the streets of NYC are not kind to shoes), does it really make sense to spend a bunch of money? I’d love to hear your advice in the comments below!

1. Topshop Monster PJ Sweat Top // 2. Incoco Nail Strips- Pretty in Pastel
3. J.Crew Printed iPhone case in Bright Hydrangea // 4. Jack Wills Porchfield Dress in Chambray Spot

Here’s another round-up of a few things that have caught my eye lately!

That monster sweatshirt is so fitting for me! Sometimes people think I’m a morning person, but it’s actually the opposite. I would prefer if you didn’t speak to me at all early in the morning and if you’re trying to get me to do something before I’ve had my first cuppa coffee and/or tea, forget it!

These Incoco nails strips are absolutely adorable and perfect for Easter, which is right around the corner. They remind me of a fancy Easter egg! You could possibly do this nail design by hand, but I love how easy it is to apply these strips, not to mention they last much longer than regular polish.

I’ve been wanting to switch up my iPhone case and I love how positively springy this J. Crew iPhone case is. On the other hand, what I really need to do is upgrade my phone. It’s been acting wonky for several months now and I’m afraid it’s going to die on me at any moment! I’ve heard rumors that they’ll release a new iPhone sometime this summer, so I’m hoping my iPhone 4 can hold out until then.

Ahh, polka dots- I really can’t get enough of them! Not only do I adore the polka dot print on this Jack Wills dress, but I also love the fit and flare shape. I could totally wear this dress to work in the summertime or for a weekend excursion with friends. Now if only the weather would cooperate and actually warm up!

Tell me: Which one is your favorite?

Closet Series The Blazer Closet Series: The Blazer The Blazer Closet Series: The Blazer

From left to right, top to bottom: 1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6

Welcome to a new (and hopefully regular) feature on the blog- The Closet Series. One of my resolutions this year is to totally revamp my wardrobe. I’m ready to have a wardrobe I can be proud of. First I’ll need to get rid of all the things that don’t fit or that I haven’t worn in years and start stocking my closet with pieces I really love. And I mean really really love- clothes that I didn’t buy just because they were on sale, clothes that make me feel awesome when I put them on, and clothes that I’ll want to wear for years to come.

For a while I’ve felt that some of the pieces I own are too juvenile and I’m ready to upgrade my closet a bit. Not that I didn’t like those items when I bought them, but I think it’s time to move in a different direction. Part of this involves figuring out what I want my closet to look like and head in that direction. I’ve noticed that the outfits I like the most are classic with a little bit of a twist; they’re simple, yet still polished.

I’m beginning with the basics and first on my list is finding the perfect black blazer. I have a black blazer right now, but the fit is all wrong and I feel that it swallows me up a little bit. However, with the right fit/cut, a blazer is a great way to finish off a casual or dressy outfit. Take a look at some options that have caught my eye above and some inspirational looks below!
