Christmas in Suburbia

Rifle Paper Co Keds 6

Hi, how’s it going? Are you surviving the wintry weather we’re having?

People back home in California always comment that I must be used to the cold after living on the East Coast for many years. Sure, I’ve made it through several winters in Connecticut and NYC, but that doesn’t mean that I enjoy having snowflakes pelting me in the face or losing all sensation in my limbs. Looking at these photos reminds me that I was warm, once upon a time (I know, I know, I’m being overdramatic).

In all seriousness though, it was wonderful to get the chance to go home for nearly two weeks during the holidays. I was long overdue for a catch-up with friends that live in CA. I hadn’t been home since July 2016!

Ahhh, suburbia. I did miss you, a bit. I was just thinking that it’s wonderful that my siblings and I can still come home for Christmas. We haven’t yet reached that stage where people can’t make it home for Christmas for various reasons. I’m sure I will feel quite weird about if/when we do get to that point in the future.

I tend to keep things fairly casual when I go home, because that’s the style in my hometown. Also, I spend a lot of time in the house when I go home (i.e. loungewear all dayyyy).

Boy, do I love these Rifle Paper Co. sneakers. They are both casual and dressy, with their gorgeous, metallic gold pattern. My friends know that I am obsessed with Rifle Paper Co. and want pretty much every product they make. I’ve had my eye on their sneaker collaboration with Keds for a while. I missed out on the first collection because it sold out so fast. Turns out that their second collection was even better and I’m very happy to have this pair in my wardrobe now.

Thankfully that was a shopping story with a happy ending. Do you guys have any shopping tales like that as well? Where a product you like sells out, but you’re still able to snag it, or a better version, later?

And finally, I’ll leave you with one final picture of me being my true goofball/corny self!

Little White Dress

No, your eyes do not deceive you. This is a new outfit post from yours truly! Since summer is winding down (I think of Labor Day as the unofficial end of summer), I thought I better post this little white dress before the leaves do actually start to change color.

Here’s the story of this dress: A few months ago, I was planning to attend a wedding and had nothing to wear. Of course, since I’m a procrastinator, I waited until the last minute to find something, which meant a lot of frantic shopping the week of the wedding. A few days before I was due to hop on a plane, I popped into TJ Maxx hoping that they would have something that I liked and could wear to the wedding. I did end up finding a dress, but while I was looking for that dress, this one caught my eye. I figured I’d take it into the dressing room and try it on, even though I knew I couldn’t wear it to the wedding. Of course it fit perfectly and I loved it. So I walked away from TJ Maxx with two dresses that day- the dress I wore to the wedding and this one!

These pictures were taken during my family’s trip to Seattle in July. I know Seattle is generally a rainy city, but we had nothing but blue skies while we were there (it only rained for part of one day). The Seattle weather was a real champ during our visit and it made me very happy that I’d packed several summer dresses to wear.

I have so many pictures (and some video footage too) to share from our family vacation, I don’t even know where to start! I’m thinking about dividing it up by day (so a recap of day 1 of our trip, then day 2, etc.), or I could do separate posts for the different spots that we visited (such as Pike Place Market and the Space Needle), or I could do one massive post/guide of sorts for Seattle and another for Vancouver (this option would take me forevah, evah, but maybe it makes the most sense?). Ahh, too many choices! Let me know in the comments below how you guys would prefer it!

Hello Fall

Hello Fall, it’s nice to see you again. As someone who mostly grew up on the West Coast, I still get excited about the definitive shift into autumn. Even though I’ve been out of school for a few years now, fall still feels like a fresh start. For me, one of the best parts of going back to school was picking my first day of school outfit. Of course, you wanted to look great on the first day of school and make a great first impression. I remember wanting to look trendy, but not like I tried too hard, and to still feel comfortable.

One trend that I’ve seen popping up frequently are longline sweaters and coats. I love the cyclical nature of fashion- I remember when these where really popular back in middle school. The duster sweaters in middle school were more ‘grandma chic.’ The current options are sleeker and more modern, which I like.

I wanted to try out this trend, so I picked up a simple knit version from Asos. I went with one of my favorite colors to wear (black) that way I know it will fit in well with other pieces in my closet. I’m stepping out of my comfort zone a bit with this longer silhouette, but wearing it in black made me feel more confident about my look. Also, when the trend dies down, I feel like it’s something I’ll still want to wear because it’s not too wild.

I was in an experimental mood when I was putting together this outfit, so I decided to tuck up my dress and wear it as a top. This Old Navy dress is one of my favorite purchases from the summer and I’ve gotten a ton of wear out of it. I’m pleased that I’ve found another way to continue to wear it into fall. I finished off the outfit with my trusty Chelsea boots. Altogether, I really like this look and if I were going back to school this fall, this could have been my first day of school outfit!

What do you think of these longline pieces? Would you wear them?

The goal of our vacation was to chill and clear our minds for a bit, so I kept my outfits really low-key. Most of what I’m wearing in this picture are pieces that I wore nonstop through the trip. I lived in my cutoffs and the cardigan was necessary for the cooler coast weather. I’m also wearing my MVS (Most Valuable Sandals) of the summer. I purchased these right before I went home and I’m so glad I brought them along. The style is simple, so it pairs well with pretty much everything. On top of that, they’re very comfortable. They were truly tested this summer as I did a lot of walking around, and I even hiked in them during this trip.

I just had to include this shot of my lovely mom. My siblings and I were snapchatting a lot during the trip, and my parents got a kick out of watching our stories each day. My dad even had us download Snapchat on his phone. I asked him if he planned to start snapping and he said he just might! Haha, I can’t even!
