Lay All Your Link Love on Me

How has everyone’s week been?  The first half of the week was pretty hectic for me, but then things settled down a bit.  Also, yesterday, I attended a fun event at Madewell with Alex- I’ll post some of the snaps I took on Monday!  In the meantime, I thought it would be fun to share some of the links that caught my eye this week :)

1. Has Blogging Lost Its Community?: IFB wrote a really interesting article about how the community sense in blogging has changed from what it used to be five years ago.  Many bloggers have noticed a gradual decline in comments, while there’s been an increase in interactions on other social networks such as Facebook or Twitter.  There’s a really great discussion going on in the comments too (I even added my two cents!).

2. Instagram Camera: Even though this idea was originally a joke, I would totally buy one of these if they actually decided to manufacture them!

3. Industry of One:  This cool website showcases young professionals in various industries and what they wear during the work week.  According to their site, their goal is to “document the relationship between one’s line of work + walk of life.”  I really enjoyed reading the interviews- the people they profile have really interesting stories to tell.

4. Cannes Film Festival: Doesn’t Eva Longoria just look stunning?  Take a look at this slideshow to see what she and other stars have been wearing on the red carpet at Cannes.

5. H&M Floral Pants on Citizen Couture: I’m sure you’ve seen these floral pants everywhere, but here’s some more inspiration on how to wear them.  I love seeing how one item of clothing can be styled so differently!

Tell me: What do you have planned for the weekend?

On Saturday, I’m attending a swap that is co-hosted by ClosetRaid and Kimberlee and I cannot wait!  This is exactly the push I need to go through my closet, so on Friday evening I plan to do some serious spring cleaning.  I hope to finally donate and/or swap all the clothes I’ve been meaning to get rid of, so I can have a bit more space in my closet.  It’s also my friend’s birthday on Saturday, so a few of us will be gathering to celebrate!  Hope you all have a lovely weekend and see you back here Monday :)

First off that instagram camera idea is too funny. I doubt I’d ever buy one but I’d sure love to see one and play with it a bit if they did every start making them.

Secondly it sounds like you’ve got a fun long weekend ahead. I didn’t even realize it was a long weekend till yesterday. This is the first weekend in a long time I don’t have to be anywhere’s so I’m planning on just staying home and sewing my bum off most of the days. Yeppy!

I wasn’t blogging 5 years ago, so I can’t really speak to any changes, but I feel like I still forge some really unique relationships with other bloggers through comments and emails and not really with twitter and FB. (but that may be because I don’t really like FB and twitter overwhelms me.)

    LOVE those floral pants. damn.

I agree- I certainly don’t think comments should go away or anything like that! I feel like often, it starts in the comments, then maybe expands to include things like Twitter and FB. :)

And I definitely hear you about bloggers networking in other ways. Twitter has really blown up.

I totally agree Crystle! It’s so funny to think about how resistant I was to Twitter before and how much I love it now! :)

  5. I loved the Instagram camera bit. :) I’ve only been blogging for 2 yrs. or so now, but recently have noticed that I am having less comments but more Twitter interactions. Facebook isn’t my favourite personally, but I am much more active on Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, these days! I think with technology evolving that’s mostly why the change, but it’s up to you to continue the conversation and choose what works best for you. For some it’s Twitter, or by commenting another way. As long as it is continuing, and building your community since we all work so differently.

Thanks Madison- that’s a really good point! Each person has their social media platforms that they prefer. I’m very similar to you in that I love Twitter/Instagram/Pinterest, while I’m still getting the hang of using Facebook for my blog. It will be interesting to see how our interactions evolve in a couple years from now! :)

Yes, apparently it would allow you to upload them to Instagram, as well as print them, like with a Polaroid! I think it’s such a neat idea! :)

If that Instagram camera was real, I think I would jump into the bandwagon and get it! I wish I had a phone with the app. Well, for blogging, I am basically an on and off blogger (I think I have shut down two blogs in the past years and then start all over again). I do interact with people more in the comments as I like visiting blogs. I am never active in social media sites with strangers- my Facebook is for my personal connections. X

Thanks for joining the conversation Fydez! For the longest time, I resisted using Facebook for my blog because I wanted it to only be for my personal connections, but now I’ve realized that I can keep them somewhat separate on Facebook. I still prefer other social media like Twitter and Instagram though!
