I’ve never thought of myself as a hat person. I love the way that hats look on other people, but I don’t feel like I can pull them off myself. Hat person or not, when it’s winter on the East Coast you don’t really have a choice. You need to wear a hat (unless you’re into freezing your ears off).
Earlier in the season I bought a cozy, black-and-white striped beanie from Joe Fresh. It was the first hat that I’ve bought where I thought “Hey, this doesn’t look half-bad on me!” Now I’m thinking maybe I can wear hats, or at least that I look okay in a beanie. I purchased that beanie mainly for warmth purposes, but now I’m starting to see it as an accessory too- a way to finish off the outfit. Over the weeks I’ve saved a few inspirational pictures for styling a beanie and I shared some of my favorites above.
During the long weekend, I knit a beanie out of some burgundy yarn that I had stashed away. This is only the second beanie that I own, but I’m looking forward to wearing it for an outfit post and seeing if I still think I can pull off the beanie style. I also really want a basic black version- something to add a little edge to a casual outfit.
Tell me: Do you wear hats? If so, what’s your favorite style?
I truly believe we are all hat people – some of us just don’t know it yet!
I am a lover of all kinds of hats, though I really don’t wear beanines. The fedora is my favorite of course!
You might be right- maybe the beanie will be my gateway hat!
that’s awesome that you knit a beanie. i can never get myself to actually learn how to knit something other than a scarf! i love hats. love the baseball cap kind, knit hats, brim hats, panama hats :)
Thanks Jane! I only knit scarfs for a while too, but then someone encouraged me to branch out and I discovered it wasn’t too hard after all :)
I really wish I could pull of a baseball cap, like the way they style in the J. Crew catalogs!
I’m totally down for a warm beanie!! I love all these photos! As much as I would love to wear a bright colorful one, I usually stick with the neutrals – I’m scared I wouldn’t pull the colorful one off :) Enjoy your day, Nnenna!
I’m sticking with the neutrals for now too and then maybe down the line I’ll try a colorful one :) Hope you have a wonderful weekend Jessica!
I really like beanies! I think they’re cute, cozy and sometimes they are perfect for bad hair days or if you need to rush out the door! Can’t wait to see the one you made!

Thanks Jenmarie! I’m hoping I’ll get a chance to take pics of it this weekend :)
O hey who’s that cool cat in the neon pink beanie! lol what a nice surprise. Thank you for the little feature! PS I think you totally rock a beanie! I personally love hats on chicks with bangs. I think it makes anyone who isn’t a “hat person” instantly a hat person.

Of course- I really love that look! Yeah, maybe the bangs have made all the difference and that’s why I feel semi-comfortable wearing a beanie! :)
Nice look! Love beanies!

Thank you! :)
I wish I had a beanie head! I think they are so cute and would definitely keep your head toasty. I also wish I could wear hats! The only thing that looks remotely ok on me is a cap! Love these looks though. M.Mae

I don’t think caps look good on me yet, but maybe I’ll change my mind about that like I did about beanies! :)
I love beanies. Especially ones with pompoms. Unfortunately I have always felt they look strange on me.

Yes, I’ve always thought pompoms are fun! That’s how I felt too until I bought this beanie! Maybe it’s a matter of finding the right one?
