I will read anything she writes and I was so excited to read her latest novel. Her writing is beautiful in a way that gets under your skin. I also found myself getting lost in her words. It reminded me of the feeling I’d have as a kid when I would get cozy and read my book under a blanket with a light into the wee hours of the night.

The world that Ng writes about is chilling. Reading this and seeing the parallels between our world and the one she’s created, you see how easily we could get there, and it is terrifying. Also, she captures humanity so beautifully on the page. She writes about the way that people ignore or choose not to see the atrocities around them. I think maybe we’ve all been guilty of that at some point.

I loved the fairytale references in this story and the way that the characters had such a reverence for words and stories. Reading this, we get to witness how powerful both words and stories can be. Libraries and books are a source of comfort for a few of the characters in this book and that was just so relatable.

If you’re looking for a beautifully written and moving book, then this might be the book for you.
