It’s back to the old day job for me this Monday morning, but I thought I would share with you guys a little recap of my NYFW. I got this fun idea for a post from Hallie, so here’s my play-by-play of the weekend!
Friday
8.30 am- I took off work today, but I’m still up and at ’em early to get ready for my first show at noon. Even though I’m not so hungry, I make sure to eat a bowl of oatmeal before I leave because who knows when I’ll have time for my next meal?
11.00 am- I leave my house and hop on the subway to head uptown to Lincoln Center. Noon by Noor, here I come!
12.00 pm- The show is scheduled to start at noon but fashion shows rarely start on time. I’m seated in the third row, but Kelly Cutrone herself tells me and a couple other people to move down a row. Okay, Kelly!
Then I hear Kelly saying into her mic “Get ready for Solange, get ready for Solange.” I’m thinking, “Is Solange actually coming??” Then Solange appears just a few feet in front of me and I die/rapidly tweet that Solange is in the house!
12.45 pm- The Noon by Noor show is now over- there were lots of feminine pieces and pretty prints. Quick stop with Alex to take outfit photos in front of Lincoln Center, then I’m headed downtown to Le Bain at the Standard for the Rubin & Chapelle presentation.
1.30 pm- The weather is absolutely perfect and the views from the top of the Standard are stunning. I enjoy presentations because it’s a lot easier to capture each look when the models are standing still instead of stomping down the runway. These models were moving around a bit and posing for us, which was also cool because it allowed me to capture different angles.
2.30 pm- Time for me to head nearby to Milk Studios for Cushnie et Ochs which I’m so excited about!
3.45 pm- I wait in the standing line for the show for a while and eventually they come out and tell us that that the show is filled to capacity and none of the people with the “standing” seat assignment will be let in. Of course I’m disappointed, but this happens- show are overbooked. By this time my feet are killing me from walking/standing in cute but uncomfortable heels and I’ve got a headache. It’s probably the fact that I haven’t eaten since 9.00 am?
4.15 pm- Finally make it home and immediately order some delivery because I’m too tired to even attempt to make a meal. As soon as the food comes I shovel it in my mouth and pass out on my bed for several hours.
7.00 pm- I wake up from my little nap and start uploading pictures from my camera. Lots of editing photos and writing posts until I crash again around midnight.
Saturday
9.00 am- I’m up early(ish) again and getting ready for my first show of the day- Son Jung Wan.
11.15 am- Alex and I are both going to Son Jung Wan this morning, so I meet up with her beforehand and we take the trian uptown to Lincoln Center together.
12.45 pm- Son Jung Wan finale. I really loved the beginning of the collection which started out with several all-white looks, and then a burst of yellow.
1.00 pm- Time for me to head backstage to Mara Hoffman. Backstage is a whole different animal from watching a show in the front of the house and it actually scares me a little bit! People are running around all over the place and I always feel like I’m in the way of people who are trying to do their job and get these models ready for the show. Regardless, I do my best to snap tons of pictures and listen to the hair and makeup artists talk about the inspirations for the beauty looks.
2.00 pm- Time to recharge a little bit, which means going to Starbucks and grabbing a caramel frappuccino and little vanilla bean scones. Alex and I find some benches to sit on outside of Lincoln Center and it feels great to rest our feet a bit. There’s also some good people-watching to be done as show-goers come and go from the tents.
5.00 pm- We head downtown to Birchbox Local, which is definitely my favorite lounge! You can build your own Birchbox and there are tons of samples to choose from. There are lots of free services too, like manicures or brow appointments with the Benenfit Beauty Bar. Also, did I mention that there’s candy? Yeah, this lounge is too good! I made sure to stock up on lots of candy and also got my brows done. Not only did I get to enjoy some pampering and satisfy my sweet tooth, I also bumped into Chelsea and Lindsey! I knew Chelsea was in town for NYFW and I was hoping that I’d get to meet her in person, so that was a nice coincidence.
6.30 pm- I’m quite hungry and I have some time before my next show, so I decide to head home and eat some leftovers. I’m also done with heels for the day and know that I’ll be wearing some comfy flats when I go back up to Lincoln Center later.
8.15 pm- Heading back uptown for Venexiana! After a bit of waiting, I make it into the show and find the spot I want so I can hopefully get some decent shots. The show starts, but the woman in the seat in front of me is standing, directly blocking my view. In case you didn’t know, if you have a seat, you have to be seated in it, and then people with “standing” stand behind the rows of chairs. Several people from the PR team try to tell this woman that she needs to sit in her seat, but she got really huffy and refused. I, of course, am not pleased since she is blocking most of my shots, but I try to work around her. Then, a PR manager comes over and tells her that she either has to sit in the seat, or stand behind the seats- one or the other. She choses to stand and finally I can forget the drama and focus on the show in front of me!
10.30 pm- The Venexiana show is over and I’m more than ready to call it a day. Oh comfy bed, I’m coming for you!
Sunday
8.30 am- At the moment I don’t have any shows today, so I’m going to use this opportunity to sleep in. Unfortunately, my kitty Milton does not get the memo and is whining outside my door, asking to be fed. I roll out of bed begrudgingly, fill up his food bowl, then roll back into bed and sleep for several more hours.
11.30 am- I’m up for reals this time and I’m working on a few posts. I’m trying to get things done now because I want to head back to the Birchbox lounge, then I have the rewardStyle party, and finally a birthday dinner for a friend in the evening.
3.00 pm- I’ve finally gotten dressed and I’m ready to go to the Empire Hotel for the rewardStyle party. When I get there, it’s pretty crowded and at first it’s hard to find anyone that I know. After a while, I run into old friends from Connecticut (Lydia and Megan) and I spot Hope too! Also, get this– I ran into a friend that I haven’t seen since I graduated from high school! It was so great to catch up with her and hear about what she’s been up to.
7.00 pm- Heading downtown again to the West Village for a friend’s birthday party. I’m a little bit early, but I don’t mind strolling around for a bit because the West Village is such a wonderful neighborhood.
10.00 pm- Made it back home and coming to terms with the fact that I have to return to real life tomorrow. Time for me to finish up this post and get a good night’s rest!
